Lifelong anime fan

Hello everyone

After getting sick of Google locking down the internet to the point where you can longer find anything, I decided to ask AI to find me a place that I might to make new friends based on my interests. It recommended this place so I thought I'd join up and give it a try.

I'm probably older than most of you. I'm 48 from the UK and have been watching anime since about 1992ish. I've also been a gamer since the days when being somebody who played video games got you beaten up. I've been playing since about 1985/86. Ive been out of gaming for the last two gens though as haven't had time.

I have a PhD in sociology
I like metal, punk, j-core, various dance music genres.
Absolutely love Japan. I've been 4 times and I've been to USA about 10 times.

I've spent most of my life outside of society with no friends etc. never really got on with people (no criminal records though). Always been into alternative interests like anime. Britain isn't a good place for someone like me especially if you are older. I grew up when anime wasn't even a word in the UK. The only anime you could buy was a choice of 4 VHS tapes in the game store.

I also like to crossdress sometimes and have always wanted to dress as a female anime character. So that's another thing that makes it difficult to find friends.

Anyway I hope I haven't waffled on too much. Just thought I should say something about myself.

I agree, the UK is such a hostile place for anime fans. I always hear about how anime has went "mainstream" but as far as I know, it's still relatively niche in the UK. At least in my school, nobody knows any anime past Dragon Ball.

Very true that. Youll probably find that the microcosm of school reflects wider society in terms of interests. Most people still fall into what i call the 'middling blob'.
