This might be an interesting point of discussion. I personally think that the Higurashi series in its visual novel form is a lot better than the anime. This might just be me, but I feel like I'm much more closer to the characters in the visual novel rather than the anime. That could just be a preference for visual novels overall though.

Imo I think most vns are better in their original form than anime form, at least in my super-small experience

I agree for Higurashi the visual novel feels closer. You get more time in the town and more of what each person thinks. The anime has to move fast so some slow tense parts get cut. I still like the anime for the sound and the scary scenes but the novel wins for story

Definitely for Higurashi. Pretty much 99% of visual novels are better than the anime. Anime can be better if they cut out menial filler but generally the VN's are much better

One more point for the novel side is the routes. You pick where the story goes and you can see bad ends and other paths. That makes a second run fun too. An anime has to pick one path for all fans so some parts always get left out.
